(More customer reviews)This bar intially seemed to be well made and produced by a professional company, with more than adequate pads on the bars and on the over-the-door molding bar. Unfortunately appearances are deceiving and it is actually poorly made, with significant limitations on its usefulness that should have been clearly stated on the outside of the packaging, but were not.
This bar has a stated weight limit for its users of 220 pounds, This should have been stated on the box, but instead it was inside of the assembly manual. Often stated limitations are conservative - a dozen eggs with a sell-by date of 3/1/11 are usually good well past April Fool's day. Not so with this pull up bar, not by a long shot. I'd guess its actual weight limit is more like 160 pounds. I installed it and standing flat and pulling down on it with slightly more than half my strength, it flexed over half an inch. It flexed on the cross bars and grips, it flexed at the joint between the two halves of the main bar. I am no NFL lineman, just an average-sized guy with average strength. The tubes are simply too thin, weak and flexible to be used in any sort of medium or heavy capacity of the sort that an exercise bar like this should have. I felt it was so flexible as to be unsafe and I returned mine for a refund.
This bar requires a space of at least 3 inches between the top of the molding over the door and the ceiling in order to install the hang bar and its retaining clip properly. Any less than 3" of clearance and you may not be able to fit the bar in over and behind the installed safey clip.
For those 150lbs or less, you probably should have no problems with this bar, but for the rest of us, you should pass and go for something much sturdier.
